- ISFAHAN SCHOOL:
Shah Abbas proclaimed Isfahan the capital of Persia in 969 A.H.
With the intent of making his new capital a center of civilized
art and knowledge, Abbas commissioned the construction of several
prominent mosques, universities and grand public buildings. As
a result, renowned and emerging artists resettled to Isfahan
in great numbers, founding one of the great schools of the Persian
artistic tradition.
-
- Paintings from the artists of the Isfahan
School were created on single sheets of thick paper, and are
now the ornamental exhibits of grand museums around the world.
Isfahan artists demonstrated a personal, sensitive connection
to their work, paying great attention to detail and perfection
in imagery. The School's philosophy was often described as an
attempt, through art, to represent the "perfection and beauty
of God's creations." To this day, the relics of Isfahan
evoke a tranquility and deep emotional connection with the physical
world.
