- HAHVGEH KHANEH PAINTING

- This style of painting represents the
tradition of realism in Persian art, striving for truthfulness
in form and detail. The works of the Ghahveh Khaneh were most
influenced by the literary masterpiece Shahnameh Ferdowsi,
which provided the main subject of illustration for the early
Ghahveh Khaneh artists.
-
- The epic Shahnameh, which retells
the great heroic myths of Persian literature, grounded the Ghahveh
Khaneh style in a desire to depict reality for its own sake,
devoid of abstraction and surrealism. Thus, the Ghahveh Khaneh
can be viewed as a "return to logical art" for Persian
painters, an effort to preserve the rich tradition and history
of Persia through representations of its great literature.
-
- To the outside observer, the Ghahveh Khaneh
seem most distinct for their obvious reverence of religion and
piety in human figures. This can be attributed to the advent
of postcolonial and postmodern strains of thought in Oriental
academic circles, inciting a resurgence of national pride in
a Persian culture long at the mercy of imperialist co-optation.
