GLASS PAINTING:
ASAR GALLERY OF ART

The tradition of painting crystals , cut-glasses, glazed cups and ornamentals is part of Iran's ancient artistic tradition. The advent of glass painting in Iran does not have a clear or definitive date, but historians can assume that the tradition of decorating glass dates back near the time of the discovery of glass itself.

Seyed Kazem Shirazi, Seyed Hossein Arab and Agha Sadegh are among the most famous artists of this school. Unfortunately, while Shirazi and Arab's works remain well-known, very few glass paintings are left to document Sadegh's work. Artifacts discovered in Shiraz point strongly to the hypothesis that Agha Sadegh could very well be the earliest major glass painter in Persia. Sadegh's designs of birds, flowers and other natural imagery influenced the glass illustrations of many of his contemporaries in the school, including both Shirazi and Arab.
